Milena Damulewicz is an assistant professor at the Institute of Zoology and Biomedical Research at the Faculty of Biology of the Jagiellonian University. She earned her PhD from the Jagiellonian University and subsequently completed postdoctoral fellowships at several international centers, including the University of Padua, the Czech Academy of Sciences, the University of Leicester, and the Instituto Leloir in Argentina. After returning to Poland, she began working on the circadian clock and circadian rhythms in the visual system, as well as on changes in the visual system during aging. In recent years, her research has also encompassed the relationship between light pollution and the development of Parkinson’s disease. Her research utilizes the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, as a model organism.
Her findings have been published in nearly 40 peer-reviewed papers in journals such as PLOS One, Scientific Reports, and PNAS. She conducts numerous studies in collaboration with international centers, primarily in Italy and Germany. Her work is funded by grants from the National Science Centre, such as Opus and Sonata Bis. She is also a recipient of Mobilność Plus and Bekker NAWA travel scholarships.
