Agata Nalborczyk

Agata S. Nalborczyk holds an MA in Iranian Studies, and in Arabic and Islamic Studies (University of Warsaw, Damascus University and Saarland University), Ph.D. in Arabic Studies, habilitated Dr. in Religious Studies – Islamic Studies. Associate Professor and Head of the Department for European Islam Studies, Faculty of Asian and African Cultures, University of Warsaw.

Her research focuses on Islam in Europe (esp. Poland, Central and Eastern Europe), legal status and history of European Muslim minorities, Polish-Lithuanian Tatars, Islamic religious leadership, gender issues in Islam, Christian-Muslim relations, the image of Islam and Muslims in Europe, Arabic sociolinguistics.

She is the member of the Editorial Board of the series “Annotated Legal Documents on Islam in Europe” (Leiden: Brill; first volume published in 2014), member of the Editorial Board of the journal “Sociology of Religion” (Oxford Univ. Press, IF 2024=1.7), “Studia Religiologica” (Jagiellonian University, Poland), Advisory Board of the “The Religious Studies Review” (‘Przegląd Religioznawczy’; Polish Society for the Study of Religions). Since 2014 she has been also the member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Erlangen Centre for Islam and Law in Europe (Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany; EZIRE).

She has served as a SH5 Panel Member of Advanced Grants 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023.
