Stylianos Lefkopoulos studied biology in Greece and obtained his Dr. rer. nat. degree (PhD) in 2021 from the University of Freiburg in Germany, based on work conducted in the laboratory of Eirini Trompouki at the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology & Epigenetics. His work described how innate immune signals are triggered by transposable element transcripts during development to support the production of hematopoietic stem & progenitor cells. During his postdoctoral studies with Trista North at Boston Children’s Hospital, he aimed to characterize metabolic pathways modulating hematopoietic stem cell development. Stylianos joined Nature Cell Biology in December 2021 as an Associate Editor and was promoted to a Senior Editor in September 2023. He handles manuscripts on the areas of stem cells, developmental biology and disease mechanisms.
