Wodzisław Duch

Professor of physical sciences, prominent cognitive scientist, computer scientist and philosopher of mind, affiliated with Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun. He heads the Department of Applied Computer Science and co-founded the Interdisciplinary Center for Modern Technologies. His research interests include artificial intelligence, neural networks, neuroinformatics, modeling of cognitive processes and philosophy of mind.

He is the author of several hundred scientific publications and an active popularizer of knowledge on the borderline between the sciences and the humanities. He has worked as a visiting professor at universities in Japan, Germany, Singapore and the USA, among others. In 2014-2015, he served as undersecretary of state at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. He combines an interdisciplinary approach with deep reflection on what the human mind is and how it can be modeled mathematically and technologically.
