Professor at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, Jagiellonian University. He also works at the Center for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He was a Humboldt Fellow in Germany (1989/90) and a Fulbright Fellow in the United States (1997/98). He led a one-year research project at the Perimeter Institute in Waterloo, Canada (2004/05). From 2019 to 2023, he was director of the National Center for Quantum Computing in Gdansk, Poland. His interests include quantum mechanics, quantum information, chaos and nonlinear dynamics, as well as applied mathematics and election theory. His memoirs Notes of a Serial in 1991 were published by Universitas Publishing. He is co-author of the monograph Geometry of Quantum States, published by Cambridge University Press (2006, 2017), as well as the books Every Vote Counts (2014) and High-Mountain Skiing in the Polish High Tatras (2004, 2024). In July 1991, he skied down from Lenin’s Peak (7134 meters above sea level) in Kyrgyzstan.
