Iwona Sobkowiak-Tabaka

She is an archaeologist specializing in the study of the Late Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic periods of Central and Eastern Europe. She graduated in archaeology from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan (2001), received her PhD from IAE PAN (2008), and received her habilitation in 2018 from the same institution. She also trained in geology in postgraduate studies, combining paleoenvironmental data with GIS analysis.

From 2000 to 2020, she worked at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, where she served, among other things, as head of the Archaeological Rescue Research Team. Since 2020, she has been a professor at Adam Mickiewicz University.

Her research interests include Late Paleolithic chronostratigraphy, hunter-gatherer communities, human-environment interactions, as well as Neolithic settlement and cultural transmission. She has conducted research in Poland and Sudan, using an interdisciplinary approach and modern tools of spatial analysis.
