Elvin Flamingo (Dr. Jaroslaw Czarnecki) – visual artist, lecturer at the Department of Sculpture and Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk. In 2016-2019 he served as Vice-Dean of Intermedia. He realizes intermedia projects at the intersection of art, biology and technology (bioart, art+science). Elvin Flamingo’s most important work is the “Symbioticity of Creation” project. The work is based on the breeding of ants in incubators specially designed by the artist and refers to destruction and creation from scratch, to the position of the creator in the context of living megalopolises created by ants. The work was nominated for the Prime Minister’s Award. It was also the subject of Elvin Flamingo’s doctoral thesis.
In 2020, in duo with Jowita Nowakowska-Golacka, he realized the second part of the project “Symbioticity of Creation” titled. “[Self Cells Portrait]” and is in the process of realizing the third part of it titled. “[PLA-SYMSA-R]”. Elvin Flamingo is the founder of the BIO-MEDIA Intercollegiate Research Group.
