Tropical forests are among the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth – in the Amazon alone, approximately 40,000 plant species have been described, and the number of insect species is estimated at up to 2.5 million. Professor Marta Kolanowska has contributed to a better understanding of this unique region by describing several hundred previously unknown plant species. We will talk with her about ecological networks and attempts to understand the jungle, whose complexity resembles a living superorganism.
