Curiosity as a Method: Basic Research and Its Impact on Society and Technology

Basic research describes phenomena and mechanisms whose practical significance often only becomes apparent years later – in new technologies, therapies, educational tools, or ways of understanding the world.

During a session organized on May 22nd by the National Science Centre (NCN), we will discuss how research-driven projects impact the economy and social life, why it’s difficult to predict their outcomes, and why it’s worth funding research that doesn’t promise a finished product. Researchers working on projects funded by the NCN and the European Research Council will present their point of view and knowledge gathered through the years. .
