What happens when DNA is damaged – and why is this mechanical, biochemical ‘repair’ crucial for life?
During the meeting with Prof. Marcin Nowotny, an outstanding biochemist and molecular biologist, we will take a look at the fascinating world of protein structures responsible for DNA repair. It is thanks to such processes that our cells can function efficiently despite constant threats: mutations, radiation or toxins. Professor Nowotny – winner of the Foundation for Polish Science Prize and member of prestigious scientific organisations (Academia Europaea, EMBO) – will talk about his research into the molecular mechanisms of enzymes such as resolvases and nucleases, as well as what it is like to work as a scientist at the intersection of chemistry, biology and physics.
