Klaus Zuberbuehler

Researcher of animal minds and communication. Creator of the research field known as ape linguistics: using methods typical of the study of human languages, Professor Zuberbühler began to uncover the depth of meaning found in the natural communication of apes. His work sheds light on how our language may have evolved and forces us to ask whether chimpanzees – the closest animals to us – have their own languages, culture and are as aware of the world around them and themselves as we are.
